Climate Change and Solar

SOLAR POWER

We must move away from burning any fuel. Electric cars alone are simply not enough!

Years ago, I stated at a PUC commission meeting that for the cost of the rental vehicle parking garage at OGG (which ordinary citizens can not park at), that every man, woman, and child on Maui could be given a Tesla-wall battery (or similar) to help stabilize the electric grid.

Such a plan would cover 30% of the price of the island going solar.

If rental car parking can be funded by a single bond issuance, so can solar.

SO I propose a 4 point plan:

1 zero interest PV installation loans for homeowners who occupy their homes and even those who own other homes as well IF they are used for local housing.

2 legislation that not only gives a bigger initial tax credit to solar power system owners, but also credits existing systems AND passes savings to renters. This will help our environment and reduce everyone's electric bill, whether they rent or own --- whether or not they can afford a Tesla!

That's what I call --- #WorkingFor the People!

3 A state grant program to pay for charging station installation by providing a zero interest loan and assistance for loan payment on a sliding scale including BOTH homes and commercial venues.  If people can charge they will convert.

How will we pay for this is a fair question:

First, large companies need to pay their fair share.

Also I will work with our federal counterparts to ensure we tap Biden’s bipartisan Infrastructure Act funds

There's 8 Billion dollars alone just for electric vehicle charging stations and $65 billion available for renewable energy projects. We can do this without raising taxes.

Finally  4) I propose issuing a bond for this which is paid for by a tourist rental car fee.

If they can pollute here they can help us clean up our island!
